The 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia has been postponed and rescheduled amid deadly attacks on the host country and disruption across the region, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said.

The tournament had been due to run from 7 January to 5 February 2027. Under the revised schedule, it will take place from 23 December 2027 to 21 January 2028.

The AFC said the decision reflected “exceptional circumstances” in the region, including significant logistical challenges and travel disruption. It added that the new dates would be submitted to FIFA for approval.

In October, a missile attack by Yemen’s Houthi movement on Riyadh’s airport killed 13 people and injured more than 300, according to the original report.

Other events in Saudi Arabia have also been cancelled recently, including the Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition, which had been scheduled to take place in Riyadh.
