Alex de Minaur’s difficult record against Carlos Alcaraz continued on Sunday as the Australian lost 6-1, 6-4 to the Spaniard in the Vienna Open final. Alcaraz secured the victory in under half an hour and claimed the fourth title of his disrupted 2026 season.

The result means de Minaur has now lost all seven of his meetings with Alcaraz. However, the Australian used his speech after the match to bring some humour to the situation, joking that it was “very annoying” to play against the world No. 3.

De Minaur also congratulated Alcaraz on returning to the Tour and praised both his tennis and his character, describing him as one of the great people on the circuit. He added that Vienna had been a special tournament for him and that he felt at home there while producing some of his best tennis.

The Australian thanked the tournament organisers, ball kids, crowd and his team, while acknowledging that his season had included several highs and some lows. Despite the defeat, he said he remained proud to be competing and was looking forward to the remainder of the year.

The Vienna final was de Minaur’s third ATP 500 final, a run that has earned him the ATP 500 bonus pool. His next goal will be the Paris Masters, where he will try to secure qualification for the ATP Finals.

De Minaur currently occupies ninth place in the race, which is enough to qualify, but he remains in contention with players including Arthur Fils and Novak Djokovic. After receiving a first-round bye in Paris, he will face the winner of the match between Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Andrey Rublev. He has yet to win the Paris Masters.
