Massimiliano Allegri said he had no criticism for his Napoli players’ effort after their 4-1 defeat to Porto in the Champions League, though he admitted the result left him disappointed during what he described as a difficult period for the team.

Napoli played well for 70 minutes, Allegri told Prime Video, and he felt the side’s physical and technical performance was better than in its previous match on Sunday. He said the team conceded avoidable goals, including one after a clearance of its own, while Porto’s first and third goals came from corner situations.

Allegri said Napoli needed to analyse its defending at set pieces, calling the details decisive. He ruled out taking the squad away to a training camp before Sunday’s league match against leaders Lazio at the Maradona stadium.

The coach said the team would prepare seriously for that important fixture and could welcome back some injured players after the international break. He urged his players to face the difficult spell with a desire to respond.
