Glamorgan opener Asa Tribe has been prevented from joining the England Lions tour in the Caribbean after travelling to Kenya, where he played for Jersey last month amid concerns over an Ebola outbreak in east Africa.
Tribe, 22, remains eligible to represent his native Jersey until he earns a senior England cap. He played three List A matches for the associate nation in Nairobi and was then due to join the Lions in St Kitts and Nevis.
The government of St Kitts and Nevis has introduced a 21-day non-entry rule for non-nationals who have recently been in Kenya and seven other African countries. The restriction followed the emergence of Ebola cases in Kenya, including nine confirmed cases and two fatalities.
An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesperson said Tribe was unable to enter the country after his recent trip to Kenya. The spokesperson added that Tribe had returned to the UK and that the ECB was in contact with the relevant authorities.
Tribe played his final match in Nairobi on 27 October and attempted to travel to St Kitts and Nevis via connecting flights. He reached Paris before discovering that he could not continue under the entry rules.
The England Lions began their T20 series against West Indies A without him, winning by eight wickets on Sunday. Thomas Rew, captaining the side at 18, made an unbeaten 50 as England chased a target of 99 in 10.1 overs.
The tour still includes four T20 matches and three 50-over games, all in St Kitts. With the final match scheduled for 16 November, Tribe appears unlikely to join the squad unless he receives a waiver.
