Matteo Berrettini has secured his place in the round of 16 at the Paris Masters 1000 following a straight-sets victory over Ugo Humbert. The Italian, currently ranked 43rd in the world, defeated the Frenchman, who sits at number 38 on the ATP rankings, with a scoreline of 7-6 and 7-5.
In the next round, Berrettini will face Carlos Alcaraz, the world number three. The Spanish star advanced to this stage by eliminating American Alex Michelsen, ranked 35th, in a match that ended 7-6 and 6-3.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic's dream of reaching the Finals has been dashed after his elimination in the second round of the tournament. The Serbian lost in three sets to Australian qualifier Rinky Hijkata, with the final score standing at 2-6, 6-3, and 6-3. Djokovic currently holds the eleventh position in the race for the Finals, and reaching at least the semifinals in Paris was his only remaining chance to improve his ranking sufficiently to qualify for the event in Turin.
