Carlos Alcaraz will turn his attention to the Paris Masters after winning the Vienna Open, but the tournament schedule could make his bid for a first title in Paris particularly difficult.
The Spaniard has not gone beyond the quarterfinals in any of his five previous appearances at the indoor Masters event. He has recorded five wins in total, giving him a 50% success rate across those campaigns.
Alcaraz is scheduled to play his opening match on Wednesday, November 4, after receiving a bye in the second round because of his ranking. Having played every possible match in Vienna, he would need to win five matches across five consecutive days to lift the Paris trophy.
That would give Alcaraz 10 matches in two weeks, following his run in Vienna. His draw also presents several demanding potential opponents from the early rounds onward.
He is due to face the winner of Alex Michelsen and Jiri Lehecka. Lehecka is considered the likely victor after reaching the final of the Swiss Indoors. Brandon Nakashima could await in the third round, followed by a possible quarterfinal against Taylor Fritz or Arthur Fils.
Although Alcaraz has an excellent record against Fritz, Fils could pose a significant threat. Two of Alcaraz’s five defeats at the Paris Masters have come against French players, Ugo Humbert and Hugo Gaston.
A semifinal against Daniil Medvedev is another possible scenario, just weeks after Alcaraz defeated him in the Vienna Open semifinals. Alexander Zverev could then be his potential opponent in the final.
If the projected path materializes, Alcaraz may need to defeat three top-10 players in as many days. The combination of his recent run in Vienna, the compressed schedule and the strength of his draw would make a Paris Masters victory one of the most impressive titles of his ATP Tour career.
