Carlos Alcaraz could make changes to his coaching team ahead of the 2027 season, according to former coach Brad Gilbert. Alcaraz currently works primarily with Samuel Lopez, but Gilbert believes the Spaniard may bring in another member of staff in the coming months.
The speculation follows recent coaching moves elsewhere on the ATP Tour. Juan Carlos Ferrero, who coached Alcaraz through six Grand Slam titles before their split, is set to work with Ben Shelton next season. Meanwhile, Magnus Norman is expected to join Jannik Sinner’s team, replacing Darren Cahill.
Gilbert said on The Big T Podcast that he expects several more top-10 players to make significant changes. He suggested that David Ferrer, who is stepping down as Spain’s Davis Cup captain at the end of the year, could be a candidate to join Alcaraz’s setup.
Ferrer has also been linked by some observers with Rafael Jodar, but Gilbert said he would not be surprised if Alcaraz made a move during the off-season. Former doubles player Marc Lopez is expected to replace Ferrer as Spain’s Davis Cup captain.
Alcaraz is third in the rankings and has returned to form after a four-month wrist injury layoff that began in September. Whether he adds another coach to his team remains uncertain.
