Inter will look to respond against Feyenoord after a disappointing derby performance, several comebacks required early in the season and just one win from their first three Champions League matches. Coach Cristian Chivu said he continues to trust the squad and expects a strong performance in the Netherlands.
“I believe in the work, in what this team is and in what it has done so far,” Chivu said. He acknowledged that the team has made mistakes and experienced negative episodes, but stressed the importance of learning from them and moving forward with confidence.
Inter forward Marcus Thuram also identified the team’s early approach to matches as an area that requires improvement. He said the players must recognize the problem rather than ignore it, and reproduce the attitude shown when Inter secured their only Champions League victory against Shakhtar despite playing with ten men.
Chivu had called for a more combative Inter in the derby, but felt that the team lacked character and concentration against Milan. He now sees the immediate Champions League fixture as an opportunity to leave that defeat behind. The coach added that Inter remain in contention, while acknowledging that reaching the top eight could require around 16 points.
Alessandro Bastoni is suspended, leaving Inter with limited defensive options. Bisseck, Akanji and Carlos Augusto are expected to form the back three, while Federico Dimarco could return on the flank. Pio Esposito may start alongside Thuram in attack. Chivu also reported that Provedel and Pavard have returned and that no further problems have emerged in recent days.
The Inter coach warned that Feyenoord are particularly strong at home, combining intensity with quality in attack. He highlighted Hadj Moussa and Zechiel, as well as the Dutch side’s ability in duels and one-on-one situations.
Chivu has personal experience of the atmosphere at Feyenoord’s stadium, where he won the Dutch Cup. He expects a hostile environment and strong support from the home fans, but said that such occasions are part of the appeal of playing in the Champions League. Inter, he insisted, must respond with determination, hunger and concentration.
