Como overwhelmed Lens 9-1 in France, setting a new record for the largest away-winning margin in Champions League history. In the other match, Napoli lost 4-1 to Porto in the fourth round of the competition’s league phase.
Como’s eight-goal victory margin surpassed the previous away record of seven goals, achieved on four occasions by Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. The result also equalled the competition’s biggest margin overall, matching Liverpool’s 8-0 win over Beşiktaş in 2007 and Real Madrid’s 8-0 victory over Malmö in 2015.
Tasos Douvikas scored a hat-trick and, with six goals, moved into sole possession of the Champions League scoring lead, ahead of Haaland and Tresoldi. Nico Paz, who made it 3-0, did not celebrate. He instead held up a shirt bearing a photograph of Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel, who died after a collision during a Spanish second-division match. The shirt carried the message “Rest in peace”; Paz was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Douvikas opened the scoring in the seventh minute and added Como’s second in the 32nd. Paz made it 3-0 in the 40th, and Lucas da Cunha scored shortly after halftime. Marc Kempf, Douvikas and Mattia Liberali then extended the lead to 7-0. Lens pulled one back through Ruben Aguilar before Martin Baturina made it 8-1. Matteo Papaccioli completed the scoring in stoppage time.
At Porto, Bednarek put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute. Scott McTominay equalised for Napoli in the 43rd, but Kiwior restored Porto’s lead in the 80th. Samu Aghehowa converted a penalty in the 90th minute to seal the 4-1 win.
