Borussia Dortmund beat Betis 2-1 in a closely fought Champions League match, with the Spanish side staying competitive until the final whistle. Betis responded to Fabio Silva’s opener through Aitor Ruibal, but Karetzas scored the decisive goal after goalkeeper Álvaro Valles had kept his team in the contest.
Betis had chances to take a result, particularly after Isco came on and helped the visitors gain control of the ball. Abde came close late on, while a corner from Isco also passed across the goal line without a Betis player getting a touch. Dortmund were under pressure in the closing stages but held on.
The home side had taken the lead after Valles saved Fabio Silva’s first attempt but could not stop the follow-up. Ruibal later equalised, yet Betis were unable to preserve the draw before Karetzas restored Dortmund’s advantage.
Manuel Pellegrini said his team had competed well and created as many as three clear opportunities to make it 2-2. Isco described the game as open and said Betis had played well overall, despite conceding shortly after their equaliser.
Betis have three wins from four matches and remain in the qualification race. The loss came against a Dortmund side described in the match report as physically powerful, but Betis finished strongly and had the hosts defending in the final minutes.
