England secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup with a 134-0 win over the USA at Wollongong Entertainment Arena. The team scored 23 tries, with eight players getting on the scoresheet.
Captain Mason Billington said England had improved on their opening performance, which player Rob Hawkins had rated five out of 10 after a 98-18 win against Wales. Asked to assess the USA match, Billington told Premier Sports: “At least a seven.” He said the players had stayed true to the way they wanted to play.
Luis Domingos scored four tries on his first appearance at the tournament. Chris Haynes and Billington also crossed four times each. Finlay O’Neill was named player of the match after scoring 38 points, with two tries and 15 conversions.
England will face either France or Australia in next week’s semi-finals. Ireland secured qualification alongside England in Pool A with a 68-28 victory over Wales, and will meet England in their final group game on Friday in Wollongong.
France and Australia also booked semi-final places. France beat New Zealand 120-10, while Australia defeated Scotland 104-24. The teams meet on Friday to determine the pool winners. Scotland, New Zealand, Wales and the USA will contest the ranking competition for fifth to eighth place.
