Kimi Antonelli’s historic drivers’ championship has shifted attention to the 2027 Formula 1 season, even though the constructors’ title remains undecided. Mercedes leads Ferrari in that contest and is among the teams that have already confirmed its driver line-up for next year.
Antonelli is set to stay at Mercedes alongside George Russell. The report says the new champion’s salary is expected to rise to €30 million, with advertising income estimated at between €9 million and €18 million. Russell has since congratulated his teammate, writing on Instagram that Antonelli had earned the championship after an “absolutely incredible” season. He also described his own campaign as having fallen away because of bad luck and disappointing performances.
Ferrari is expected to continue with Charles Leclerc, who has signed a multi-year deal, and Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull has extended Max Verstappen’s contract through 2030, and Isack Hadjar is set to remain alongside him. McLaren will retain Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, while Italian reserve driver Leonardo Fornaroli is also confirmed in that role. His plans are set to include a World Endurance Championship debut in McLaren’s new Hypercar.
Sergio Perez was the latest driver to renew, signing with Cadillac through 2029. Most of the teams further down the grid have also kept their drivers. At Racing Bulls, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are expected to stay, although their places were not described as confirmed.
The report also says Leclerc could return to Monaco and miss the first Brazilian Grand Prix practice session because his first child with his wife, Alexandra, is due soon.
