Florian Thauvin has made an impressive start to his second season with Lens, recording six goals and eight assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. The 33-year-old captain will have another opportunity to make his case for a return to France’s national team when Lens face Como in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 4.
Thauvin’s latest challenge comes five days after a disappointing performance in the northern derby in Ligue 1. Earlier in the season, he marked his 300th appearance in France’s top flight with a goal and an assist in Lens’s 2-1 win over Paris FC on October 24. It was the 25th time in his career that he had recorded both in the same match.
The former Marseille forward has spoken openly about his ambition to play for France again. He has 13 caps and was part of the team that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia. His most recent appearance for the national side came on November 9, 2025.
Asked about the possibility of being selected again after the Paris FC match, Thauvin said he would trust the national team coach to make the decision. France’s squad announcement is due in the coming days.
