Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket, ending his career with Australia’s T20 side and his state team. The 38-year-old had already stepped away from one-day internationals in 2025 and will continue to play franchise cricket.

Maxwell made 130 appearances in T20 internationals, scoring 2,897 runs at an average of 28.97 and a strike rate of 154.42. He also took 51 wickets and claimed 62 catches. His highest score was 145 not out against Sri Lanka in 2016.

His final appearance for Victoria prompted an emotional moment, Maxwell said on The Final Word podcast. Telling his teammates that it would be his last match for the state was harder than he expected, and he became choked up.

Maxwell said he was grateful for the opportunity to represent Australia and hoped his career would inspire young players to approach the game in their own way. He also reflected on being given his Test debut before he felt ready, saying he was glad the selectors had taken a chance on him.

As well as 130 T20 internationals, Maxwell played seven Tests and 149 one-day internationals for Australia. He will remain active in T20 franchise cricket, including with the Melbourne Stars in the upcoming Big Bash League.
