Jesus Owono has deactivated his Instagram account after receiving threats and racist insults. The Andorra goalkeeper was involved in an on-field collision that led to the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel.

Spanish police have opened an investigation on suspicion of manslaughter. Owono had more than 30,000 Instagram followers as of the previous morning before disabling his account.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho expressed condolences over de Miguel’s death and said the incident was a shocking and painful moment for football. He also stressed that, alongside the family and friends of the deceased, thoughts should be with Owono, describing the situation as extremely difficult for the goalkeeper.
