Kimi Antonelli secured the 2026 Formula 1 world championship with third place at the Mexican Grand Prix, becoming the first Italian to win the title since 1953. The 20-year-old shared the podium with race winner Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who finished second.

The three drivers on the podium represented 12 world titles: Hamilton has seven, Verstappen four and Antonelli one. The championship also puts Antonelli at the top of a recent run of title winners that includes Lando Norris in 2025 and Verstappen from 2021 to 2024.

Hamilton and Michael Schumacher lead the all-time standings with seven titles apiece. Hamilton won his first championship with McLaren-Mercedes in 2008, then claimed six more with Mercedes between 2014 and 2020. Schumacher’s seven titles came with Benetton and Ferrari from 1994 to 2004.

Juan Manuel Fangio won five championships. Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost have four each. Five drivers have three titles: Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Niki Lauda, Jackie Stewart and Jack Brabham.
