Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell was taken to hospital for treatment after sustaining a neck injury during Sunday's NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell was hurt in the third quarter when his head was struck while tackling tight end TJ Hockenson. He was left face down on the field as medical officials attended to him before placing him on a stretcher and taking him away on a cart to applause from the crowd.
The Lions confirmed that Campbell had been transported to hospital. Head coach Dan Campbell said the team had no further information but that thoughts and prayers were with the linebacker and his family.
Jack Campbell, who is not related to the coach, was selected by Detroit with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 draft. He signed a contract extension in May that runs through the 2030 season.
He was named an All-Pro last season after becoming the first NFL player in seven years to record at least 150 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles.
Detroit won the game 19-15. Teammates DJ Wonnum and Brian Branch also suffered concussions during the contest.
