Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell remains in hospital after suffering a neck injury during Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. The team said Monday that preliminary indications are positive, but that it would not provide further details for now.
“Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital,” the Lions said in a statement. “Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time.”
Campbell, 26, was treated on the field for nine minutes after making a tackle before being taken to a nearby medical facility. Players from both teams appeared distressed as he received attention.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell also described the news as positive and asked people to continue praying for the linebacker. He praised Jack Campbell as a trusted and dependable teammate who had earned the respect of the team.
Quarterback Jared Goff said the injury was frightening and that the team was praying for Campbell. The linebacker was named an All-Pro last season and is in his fourth year in the league. He signed a four-year contract extension with Detroit in May worth $81 million.
