The Mexican Grand Prix was suspended with 25 laps remaining after a structural failure on Valtteri Bottas’ Cadillac caused a tyre to burst and sent the Finnish driver’s car into the barriers. The incident prompted the race direction to deploy a red flag.

Max Verstappen was leading when the race was stopped, ahead of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli. Lewis Hamilton was fourth and visibly frustrated before the interruption.

The seven-time world champion complained over team radio about his opening-lap battle with teammate Leclerc and the race strategy. Hamilton said he believed the race direction wanted Leclerc to win, adding: “We have big problems. Big, big problems.”

After getting out of his car, Hamilton showed his anger by throwing his scooter to the ground.
