Rafael Nadal has said he speaks with Roger Federer “very often” and that the two are in contact almost every week. The former rivals have discussed the possibility of doing something together again, although Nadal said no plans have been decided.
“I am open (to it), and I had long conversations with Roger,” Nadal told the AP. “If at some point we find the right reason and the right place to do something, you will know, guys. But I don’t know yet.”
Nadal and Federer played each other 40 times during their careers, with Nadal winning 24 of those matches. Their meetings included the five-set 2008 Wimbledon final, which Nadal won 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7. Nadal and Djokovic, by contrast, played 60 times, with Djokovic finishing ahead 31-29.
Asked whether the former members of tennis’s “Big Three” have a group chat, Nadal said they do not. “Novak is still in competition,” he explained. Federer retired in 2022 and Nadal followed two years later, while Djokovic remains active.
Nadal also described his relationship with Federer as one that extends beyond tennis, saying they talk about golf and other sports and share their thoughts. He has previously called their rivalry “special” and said he has a good relationship with Djokovic.
