Paris Saint-Germain continued their strong Champions League campaign with a 6-0 victory over Villarreal on Tuesday, while Lille were held to a 0-0 draw by Bodø/Glimt in Norway. The results leave PSG with four wins from four matches and Lille with one point from the same number of games.
PSG took control early at Villarreal’s Estadio de la Cerámica. João Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute, followed by goals from Désiré Doué, Senny Mayulu and Fabián Ruiz in the 12th, 13th and 17th minutes. The four-goal burst made PSG the fastest team to score four times in a single match in Europe’s premier club competition, according to the source report.
Ruiz added his second goal in the 50th minute, and substitute David Boly scored in the 80th to complete the rout. PSG’s win came despite the absence of Ousmane Dembélé, who was dealing with a thigh injury, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who had a serious knee injury. The victory followed earlier wins over Barcelona and Manchester City, both by 4-2, and put PSG top of the league phase.
Lille, meanwhile, could not find a breakthrough against Bodø/Glimt. Soriba Diaoune and Dilane Bakwa had opportunities, and Olivier Giroud came on late, but the visitors finished with a point in difficult conditions marked by rain, cold and wind. Bodø/Glimt came close to scoring, but Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer made important saves.
After three defeats and a draw, Lille need a run of wins in their final four league-phase matches to keep their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive. Their next European fixture is against Bayern Munich on November 25. PSG host Roma on the same evening as they seek to continue their perfect run.
