Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has died at the age of 30 after suffering serious injuries in a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Spanish second-division match on Monday. Tenerife said De Miguel died at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday, after his condition worsened overnight.

The incident occurred in the seventh minute of added time, with the match tied 2-2. Owono ran towards the halfway line to deal with a long ball and appeared to hit De Miguel with his knee. The striker remained motionless as he received medical attention, then was taken by ambulance from Tenerife’s Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium to hospital. Owono was sent off and the referee ended the match.

De Miguel’s condition was described as “stable but serious” on Monday. Spanish media, including Marca, reported that he suffered cardiac arrest in the ambulance and was resuscitated by paramedics on the way to hospital.

Tenerife announced his death in a statement, expressing its grief and offering support to De Miguel’s family, loved ones and the club community. Andorra, former club Castellón, La Liga president Javier Tebas and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé also shared messages of condolence. The Spanish Football Federation postponed the Copa del Rey matches scheduled for Tuesday after his death.

Born in Madrid, De Miguel began his career at Leganés in 2015 and went on to play for several Spanish clubs. He joined Castellón in 2023, scored 16 goals and helped the side earn promotion to the second division the following year. He signed a three-year contract with Tenerife in 2025 and scored 11 goals in 29 appearances. He leaves behind a daughter, Carla, born in 2025.
