Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel died on Tuesday, hours after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a second-division match in Spain. The 30-year-old had been taken to hospital on Monday after the incident, which occurred in the closing minutes of the game at Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium.

De Miguel was preparing to control the ball near midfield when Owono came out to clear it and collided with him. The Tenerife player remained on the pitch while medical staff treated him. The referee suspended the match, and De Miguel was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Tenerife.

Spanish media reported that De Miguel suffered cardiorespiratory arrest after the collision and was revived. An initial medical update described his condition as “stable within its severity.” A later statement, issued early Tuesday, said his neurological condition had worsened.

Tenerife announced his death in a statement expressing its grief and offering support to his family, loved ones and supporters.
