Wales will face Denmark, Italy, and Iceland when they return to the top tier of the UEFA Women's Nations League next year. Rhian Wilkinson's side previously competed in League A in 2025 but finished bottom of their group after suffering two defeats each against the Danes and Italians. Although they drew both home and away with Sweden, who won the group, Wales were relegated to League B.

The Welsh team secured promotion back to League A by topping Group B1 during the qualification campaign for the 2027 Women's World Cup. They remained unbeaten in that tournament against opponents Czech Republic, Albania, and Montenegro. While specific fixtures for the 2027 Nations League have not yet been confirmed by UEFA, the competition is scheduled to take place across international windows in February/March, April, and June.

These upcoming matches are expected to serve as preparation for Wales' first-ever appearance at a World Cup finals. The team recently defeated Albania 4-0 on aggregate in a play-off semi-final last month and now faces Norway in the final. The two-legged tie begins with a home match at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, December 1, followed by an away leg four days later.

However, defeating Norway, managed by former Wales boss Gemma Grainger, may not automatically guarantee qualification for the tournament in Brazil next summer. Due to the complex nature of the qualification process, even a victory could require Wales to negotiate inter-confederation play-offs in February to secure their spot.

The Nations League format will also directly impact qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 2029 Women's Euros in Germany. The winner of each League A group will advance to the finals in October, securing a place at the expanded LA Games, while the bottom team in each group will be relegated to League B. Additionally, third-placed teams in League A will face promotion/relegation play-offs against second-placed sides from League B.
