The Chicago Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night, as Caleb Williams led an efficient offense and new arrival Jeffery Simmons strengthened the defense in his first game for the team.
Williams completed 71% of his passes for 247 yards and threw a touchdown to Luther Burden III on Chicago’s opening drive. He had no turnovers and was sacked once. The Bears improved to 6-2, with D’Andre Swift scoring three touchdowns on short runs.
Simmons, acquired from Tennessee last week in a deal that included two first-round picks, recorded a sack on Seattle’s opening drive. He finished with six tackles, another tackle for loss and a pass defended as Chicago limited the Seahawks to 252 yards and one conversion on 11 third-down attempts.
Seattle’s Sam Darnold threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns, but his fourth-quarter interception set up Swift’s third score, which made it 34-17 with 4:41 remaining. Darnold had earlier connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 43-yard touchdown and found Cooper Kupp for a seven-yard score after a fumble recovery helped bring Seattle within three points.
The Seahawks, now 4-4, have lost three of their last four games. Their rushing attack managed 81 yards, while Swift led all rushers with 69 yards on 27 carries. The loss also ended Seattle’s 30-game run without a defeat by more than four points in the regular season and playoffs.
