Carlos Alcaraz captured the Vienna Open title for the first time in his career after beating Alex de Minaur in the final. The Spaniard accepted a late wildcard for the ATP 500 event after the Six Kings Slam was moved from October to December, and the decision produced his fourth title of 2026.

Alcaraz defeated Tommy Paul, Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev before overcoming de Minaur. During his celebration, the world No. 3 praised his opponent for his progress and thanked de Minaur’s coaching team for their work.

The Spaniard also expressed his gratitude to his own team, describing the tournament as an “amazing, emotional week.” Vienna was only his fourth event since a wrist injury sidelined him for four and a half months. Alcaraz said his team had helped him enjoy his tennis, remain relaxed and avoid putting himself under unnecessary pressure.

Alcaraz thanked the tournament organisers and the Vienna crowd, whom he had praised throughout the week for creating a strong atmosphere around the event. He recalled competing at the tournament in 2021 and said he appreciated being welcomed as an established player this year as well as being supported by packed crowds during matches and practice sessions.

The victory did not change Alcaraz’s position at world No. 3, but it earned him another 490 ranking points. According to the available information, he now has a 3,350-point advantage over Ben Shelton in fourth place, securing his position heading into the 2027 season.

Alcaraz will next target the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals, two tournaments he has not yet won. He will also look to reduce the lead held by Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev in the final events of the ATP Tour season.
