Como produced a record-setting 9-1 victory away to Lens, scoring nine times in a dominant display that leaves the Italian side fourth in the Champions League standings after four matches. With nine points, Como sit ahead of Aston Villa, Manchester City and Barcelona on goal difference, according to the report.
Tasos Douvikas opened the scoring in the seventh minute and added a second before half-time. Nico Paz made it 3-0 in the 40th minute, then Da Cunha scored soon after the break from Paz’s assist. Kempf and Douvikas extended the lead, completing the striker’s hat-trick, before substitute Liberali made it 7-0. Lens pulled one back through Aguilar, but further goals from Batturina and 18-year-old Papaccioli completed the 9-1 scoreline.
Paz dedicated his goal to Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel, who had died following an on-field collision. He showed a shirt bearing De Miguel’s photograph and the message “Descances en paz,” the report said.
The result was described as the biggest away win in Champions League history. Como have also become the competition’s second-highest-scoring team, while Douvikas leads the scoring chart. Coach Cesc Fabregas made changes late in the match, with the team set to face Inter in the league on Sunday.
