Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel is in a stable condition in intensive care after sustaining a serious injury during Monday’s match against Andorra, the club said.

The 30-year-old was hurt seven minutes into stoppage time, with the score tied at 2-2, after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono. Owono had advanced toward the centre circle to clear a long ball, and his knee appeared to strike De Miguel in the head and chest area.

De Miguel received treatment on the pitch before being taken by ambulance from Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria. Spanish media reported that he suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance and was resuscitated by paramedics, although the club described him as stable despite the severity of his condition.

Players from both teams appeared distressed, with several of De Miguel’s Tenerife teammates in tears. The referee sent Owono off with a straight red card before abandoning the match.

Andorra issued a statement expressing its support for De Miguel, his family and Tenerife, and wishing the striker a swift recovery.
