The football community has expressed its grief following the death of CD Tenerife player Jesús de Miguel. The club said he had been hospitalized since Monday after a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, and announced his death in a message on social media, offering support to his family.

Tributes followed from clubs across Spain and figures in the sport. Andorra owner Gerard Piqué, who was at Tenerife’s Heliodoro Rodríguez stadium and later visited the player in hospital, wrote that he was deeply sorry and wished De Miguel peace. The Spanish Football Federation also offered its condolences, as did Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas said he was deeply saddened by the loss and sent his condolences to De Miguel’s family, teammates and club. Other clubs, including Athletic Club, Málaga, Betis, Sevilla, Castellón, Elche and Andorra, also shared messages of support. Espanyol postponed by a day a press conference to present its new coach, Éder Sarabia.

Former teammate Fernando Román, now a Talavera player, remembered De Miguel as a humble, hardworking friend who made people around him happy. The two had played together at Unionistas.
