West Ham United have sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after a poor start to the Championship season. The 52-year-old had been in charge since September 2025 and oversaw the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
The Hammers were widely regarded as favourites for automatic promotion but are currently eighth, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough. They have won two of their past six matches and lost their last two home games: 3-2 against Southampton and 3-1 to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left the club. Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge for West Ham’s trip to Cardiff City on Wednesday night.
In a statement, the club said its board had reviewed the start to the Championship season and decided a change was needed to keep its objectives and expectations on track. West Ham thanked Nuno and his departing staff for their work and said the search for a new head coach was under way.
