Porto claimed their first win in the Champions League’s league phase with a 4-1 victory over Napoli. Coach Francesco Farioli said the result was a reward for performances in previous matches that had not brought points.

“We are reaping the rewards of what we have sown in previous games,” Farioli told Prime Video. “There had been good performances, but we came away empty-handed. Tonight we took three points to begin this Champions League campaign, and now we have to keep going through the four matches ahead.”

Farioli said Porto created several chances in the opening minutes but needed time to break the deadlock. He added that his team came under pressure late in the first half, before the substitutes helped them respond after the break and finish with energy and spirit.

The coach said Porto combined quality and physicality, while acknowledging that the team had been punished during the few moments when it fell below its level. He said the players would need to put the emotions of the win aside, with an important away match at the weekend, and maintain their form in the league as well.
