Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell says he has full movement in his lower body and is continuing to make progress with movement in his upper body after sustaining a neck injury during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was taken to hospital after being struck in the head during the match.

In a statement shared by the Lions on social media, the 26-year-old said he was encouraged by his progress and remained “very optimistic” about his recovery. He added that he was taking things one day at a time and focusing on getting better.

Campbell was carried from the field on a stretcher after hitting his head while tackling tight end TJ Hockenson in the fourth quarter. He had been lying face down and received medical assistance before being taken off.

He thanked the coaches and medical staff who cared for him, as well as those who sent messages of support to him and his family. Campbell said Detroit’s toughness, resilience and grit would shape his approach to recovery.
