Porto claimed their first Champions League win with a 4-1 victory over a Napoli side missing 10 injured players. Napoli fought back to equalise before half-time, but defensive errors after the break helped the Portuguese side secure a convincing win in the fourth round of the league phase.
Porto opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Jan Bednarek was left unmarked to head in from a corner. Napoli responded by pushing forward and found an equaliser two minutes before the interval. After Diogo Costa saved efforts from Matteo Politano and Rasmus Højlund, Scott McTominay converted the rebound.
Porto increased the pressure in the second half. Rosario came close, and Gabri Veiga struck the crossbar before putting his side back in front in the 70th minute, finishing a pass from Giménez with a low shot that went through goalkeeper Alex Meret’s legs.
The hosts made it 3-1 in the 80th minute through another unchallenged header from a corner, this time by Jakub Kiwior. In the 90th minute, Samu Aghehowa won a penalty after being brought down by Juan Jesus Marin, who was sent off. Aghehowa converted to complete the scoring.
Napoli remain on three points and are next due to face Manchester City away on November 24. Elsewhere in the Champions League, Como beat Lens 9-1 in France, setting the competition’s record for the biggest away victory by goal difference, according to the report.
