Rafael Nadal is set to join the board of directors at Real Madrid, subject to approval by the club’s members at a meeting later this month. The club has not yet disclosed what responsibilities he would have in the role.

Nadal, who retired from tennis in 2024, won 22 Grand Slam titles and two Olympic gold medals, and helped Spain win five Davis Cups. A lifelong Real Madrid supporter, he holds club member number 67,778.

Real Madrid described Nadal as one of sport’s greatest legends and said it was proud to bring an athlete of his stature onto the board. Nadal thanked club president Florentino Pérez and the board for proposing his appointment, saying he had accepted with enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute.

The appointment comes as Real Madrid members prepare to consider Nadal’s place on the board. Pérez was re-elected as club president in June for a new four-year term.
