Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel is in intensive care at the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria and is reported to be “stable within the severity” of his condition after a heavy collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono.

The incident occurred in stoppage time at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. De Miguel was running from midfield to chase a ball and launch a counterattack when Owono came out towards the halfway line to stop the move. The goalkeeper jumped and collided forcefully with the Tenerife player, who fell unconscious on the pitch.

Medical staff quickly attended to De Miguel before he was taken by ambulance to hospital. Tenerife said in a brief statement that he had been admitted to the intensive care unit and that its medical services were at the hospital. The club added that it would provide further updates when there was new information.

Owono was sent off for the challenge, and the match was suspended with the score tied at 2-2. Andorra had recovered from a two-goal deficit by scoring in the 80th and 87th minutes.

The fixture had originally been scheduled for Sunday but was postponed until Monday because of an alert for heavy rain on the island.
